Certification & Continuing Education Policy

Version: 1.0
Effective Date: July 21, 2026
Last Updated: July 21, 2026

1. Purpose

This Certification & Continuing Education Policy establishes the standards governing PTTA educational credentials, certification programs, continuing education offerings, certificates of completion, participant responsibilities, and professional expectations.

This Policy applies to all PTTA educational programs unless a specific program states otherwise.

2. Educational Philosophy

PTTA is dedicated to providing evidence-informed professional education that promotes safe, ethical, and effective movement programming for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.

Certification represents successful completion of PTTA educational requirements and is intended to recognize demonstrated knowledge and competency within the scope of the Academy’s educational programs.

3. Nature of Certification

PTTA certification is an educational credential.

Certification:

  • recognizes successful completion of Academy requirements;
  • does not constitute professional licensure;
  • does not authorize medical diagnosis or treatment;
  • does not expand a participant’s legal scope of practice;
  • does not guarantee employment, referrals, or financial success.

Participants remain responsible for complying with all laws, regulations, licensing requirements, employer policies, and professional standards applicable to their profession.

4. Eligibility

Individual programs may establish prerequisites, including but not limited to:

  • professional education;
  • certifications or licenses;
  • prior coursework;
  • attendance at prerequisite workshops;
  • completion of required assignments; or
  • other eligibility requirements published by PTTA.

Failure to satisfy published prerequisites may result in denial of enrollment or certification.

5. Requirements for Certification

Certification requirements may include one or more of the following:

  • attendance;
  • participation;
  • written assignments;
  • practical assessments;
  • examinations;
  • case studies;
  • teaching demonstrations;
  • mentorship activities;
  • professional conduct requirements; and
  • payment of all applicable fees.

PTTA determines whether certification requirements have been satisfactorily completed.

6. Continuing Education

PTTA may offer continuing education courses, workshops, webinars, conferences, and specialty training programs.

Continuing education credit or certificates of completion are awarded only after participants satisfy all applicable attendance, participation, assessment, and payment requirements.

Where continuing education approval has been granted by an external organization, participants are responsible for confirming acceptance by their own licensing board, employer, or credentialing organization.

7. Attendance Requirements

Participants are expected to attend scheduled educational activities in accordance with program requirements.

Programs may establish minimum attendance requirements for eligibility to receive certificates, continuing education credit, or certification.

Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in denial of certification or continuing education credit.

8. Academic Integrity

Participants are expected to demonstrate honesty and integrity throughout all PTTA educational activities.

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • plagiarism;
  • falsification of assignments;
  • unauthorized collaboration;
  • impersonation;
  • unauthorized use of examinations;
  • sharing examination materials;
  • copyright infringement; and
  • other dishonest conduct.

Academic misconduct may result in disciplinary action.

9. Professional Conduct

Participants are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully during all PTTA educational activities.

Conduct inconsistent with PTTA standards may result in removal from programs, denial of certification, suspension, or revocation of Academy credentials.

10. Certificates

Certificates of completion, continuing education documentation, or certification credentials are issued only after all published requirements have been satisfied.

PTTA reserves the right to withhold certificates until all financial obligations have been fulfilled.

Certificates may not be altered or misrepresented.

11. Use of PTTA Credentials

Individuals who receive PTTA certification may represent themselves only in accordance with the credential awarded.

Participants may not:

  • imply qualifications they have not earned;
  • misrepresent PTTA certification;
  • suggest PTTA endorsement beyond the credential granted;
  • use PTTA logos except where expressly authorized in writing.

12. Suspension or Revocation

PTTA reserves the right to deny, suspend, or revoke certification or continuing education recognition for reasons including, but not limited to:

  • violation of PTTA policies;
  • academic dishonesty;
  • copyright infringement;
  • unauthorized distribution of PTTA materials;
  • misrepresentation of credentials;
  • unethical conduct;
  • unsafe professional behavior;
  • harassment or discrimination during Academy activities;
  • failure to satisfy certification requirements.

PTTA may investigate alleged violations before making a determination.

13. Appeals

Participants may submit a written request for review of certification decisions within thirty (30) days of notification.

PTTA will review available information and communicate its decision in writing.

The Academy’s determination shall be final unless otherwise required by applicable law.

14. Modification of Programs

PTTA reserves the right to modify educational content, instructors, schedules, assessment methods, certification requirements, continuing education requirements, or program structure as educational standards evolve.

Such modifications shall not invalidate certifications previously awarded unless otherwise required for reasons of academic integrity or misconduct.

15. Limitation of Responsibility

PTTA makes no representation or warranty that completion of any educational program will result in employment, licensure, business success, client acquisition, insurance reimbursement, or professional advancement.

Participants remain solely responsible for the services they provide and for practicing within their legal scope of practice.

16. Policy Updates

PTTA may revise this Policy periodically.

The version in effect at the time of enrollment will generally govern that participant’s educational program unless otherwise required by law or expressly stated by PTTA.
